Feijoa Apollo

Feijoa Apollo

Season:  Late

Fruit size:  Very Large

Self-fertile:  Yes

Best use:  Fresh eating, juicing & cooking

Apollo is the go-to variety for those who want the largest possible feijoa fruit. A late-season cultivar, Apollo produces exceptionally big, chunky fruit that can reach impressive proportions — far larger than most other varieties. If you've ever wished feijoas were bigger, Apollo is the answer.

The flavour is sweet, aromatic, and very satisfying, with thick, creamy flesh that makes light work of juicing, cooking, or simply scooping and eating fresh. Because the fruit is so generous in size, a small number of trees can yield a very substantial harvest. Apollo is particularly valued by those who like to make feijoa wine, juice, jam, or chutney, as the large fruit dramatically reduces preparation time.

Apollo is a vigorous, upright grower that reaches a good size and makes an excellent windbreak or privacy hedge. Its late season is a genuine asset — by the time most other varieties have finished, Apollo is just hitting its stride, extending your feijoa season well into winter. Planted alongside early varieties like Anatoki or Kakariki, Apollo ensures you enjoy fresh feijoas for months rather than weeks.
