A dependable, quick growing shrub with smaller, deep green leaves with contrasting red stems. Tiny inconspicuous flowers are greenish-yellow and then followed by small black berries. The berries help attract birds.

Griselinia are really tough and can handle a wide range of soil and climatic conditions. They absolutely thrive in coastal conditions being wind and salt spray tolerate. They are happy in full sun and can grow in part shade as well. As with many plants the more you can do to the soil, the better the initial growth will be.

Griselinia are rarely bothered by pests or diseases but do response well to a regular prune. This encourages lots of new lush growth. Keep relatively well watered in the first few seasons to prevent them growing leggy.

The most popular use is a green hedge or screen. They are equally in place in a formal, structured garden or as a boundary in a coastal garden. They also make for great fillers or to hide an unwanted shed, view etc. 'Canterbury' is a welcome addition to the Griselinia range. The tidy and compact habit along with the contrast of the red stems makes for an attractive plant.

Can grow to 5m+ but easily trimmed to between 1.5m and 2m tall. The most popular uses for this native shrub is as a hedge for which we recommend spacing of 75cm to 1m apart or as part of a mass native plant out.
