Best use: Fresh eating & juicing |
Kaiteri is a heavy-cropping, mid to late-season feijoa that has quickly earned a devoted following among New Zealand home gardeners. Named after the beautiful bay in the top of the South Island, Kaiteri produces large, smooth-skinned fruit with thick, creamy flesh and a wonderfully rich, aromatic flavour that is sweet with just the right hint of tang.
One of Kaiteri's great strengths is the consistency of its crop — it bears reliably and generously, and the fruit tends to be evenly sized, making it particularly satisfying to harvest. The flesh is notably thick relative to the core, meaning there is excellent eating quality in every fruit. Kaiteri also has a good shelf life once picked, giving you a little more flexibility than some shorter-lived varieties.
The tree itself is vigorous and upright with attractive silvery-green foliage, and it responds very well to trimming and shaping for use as a productive hedge or screen. An outstanding all-round variety that suits both the casual backyard grower and anyone looking to produce a reliable supply for juicing or preserving.
