Passionfruit do best in a sunny sheltered position with plenty of space to grow. In areas that are particularly hot, plant your passionfruit in partial shade. They are climbers. Time to plant out is when the soil starts to warm up (Labour Weekend). Protection from the frost is required.
Passionfruit harvest times are between February to June and plants will start to bear fruit about 18 months after planting. After fruit start to appear it will take them around two to three months to ripen.
Passionfruit is a subtropical which thrives on warmth and needs a sheltered frost-free environment for successful production. With a season that ranges from Christmas through to late winter the aromatic taste of this beautiful tropical fruit can be enjoyed for over eight months of the year.
Feeding is essential: passionfruit need regular chicken manure, blood and bone and potash. Liquid potash is ideal. Water during flowering and fruit production.
