Phormium Cookianum
Phormium Cookianum
Phormium Cookianum can be grown in almost any situation. They are great as specimen plants, in containers and look equally as good incorporated into mixed plantings, whether that be with native or non-natives, shrubs or perennials. The nectar from the flowers provides a welcome feed for tui and bellbirds.
Once established Phormium Cookianum is tolerant of a wide range of conditions including windy coastal sites, they will also tolerate both dry and wet but don’t do well in full shade so would prefer full sun. They are also frost hardy. Looks great in big groups. Has yellow flowers and flowers 4-6 weeks earlier than Phormium tenax
NZ Flax, growing to 1.5 metres round.
